ChildSight Foundation
Pre-operative assessment of a child affected by childhood cataract
Child Sight Foundation (CSF) is a non-Government and non-profit organization working to eliminate avoidable blindness and to establish a right-based enabling environment for visually impaired and blind children in Bangladesh leading to goals of VISION 2020 and Millennium Development Goals (MDG). We evolved from Childhood Blindness Project of Bangladesh (CBPB), the research study (CBPB, 2001-04) conducted by International Center for Eye Health, at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (ICEH,LSHTM). The findings, process, understanding and experiences were institutionalized into CSF in 2002 with collaboration of ICEH to work with blind and on blindness.
CSF services are detection and referral of visually impaired and blind children for cataract surgeries and treatment, primary eye care, rehabilitation, inclusive education, advocacy and training. CSF works through public health approach and a unique community outreach process (Key Informant Method) and has linkages with eye hospitals, pediatric ophthalmologists, disability-specific service providers and with relevant Forums and Associations.
We have got technical and financial collaborations from Christoffel-Blinden Mission (CBM), Development Cooperation Ireland (DCI), Muslim Aid UK, AusAID, Sight Savers International (SSI), ORBIS;ICEH has overall supportive and facilitating involvement with CSF as its long-term partner.
