Children with Disability
Child with cleft lip identified and treated by csf
In Bangladesh, there is little scientific data on childhood disability but it is very important to take initiatives for them. This study project will bring significant information about childhood disability. This study is using standardised methods to identify children with disabilities (CWD) and will be useful for policy makers, planners, service providers and community stakeholders.
Identifying' children using KIM
Key Informant Method is an innovative social mobilization strategy developed by Dr Muhit and his team in Bangladesh to identify thouands of blind children in Bangladesh by training community volunteers. Since then, KIM has been successfully used in China, India, Iran, Malawi and many other countries to identify children with blindness. The new initiative by CSF is now - developed and validating Key Informant Method to identify children with wide range of disabilities- hearing impairment, epilepsy, club foot, bow legs, cleft lip & palate, hydrochephalus, cerebral palsy, and other childhood disabilities. So far, we have identified thousands of children with disabilities from 2 districts of Bangladesh, soon we will start working in the 3rd district.
